There have recently been concerns about Musladin Leuke Syndrome within the Beagle breed. This condition, also known as Chinese Beagle Syndrome is easy and inexpensive to test for.
We ordered swabs for our breeding stock, sent them back and our results came back in yesterday. We are delighted to announce that Alfie, Rosie and Gabbi are all clear of the gene so we can proceed with our plans for puppies later this year, happy days! Click here to link to the MLS database and to read more about the condition. Well, here is the promised update for those of you who enquired about a puppy......it seems we missed with Rosie so sadly there will be no babies for her this time. Sweet little Gabbi was recently mated to our own boy Alfie (both pictured) and we have everything crossed for a mid-April litter, watch this space for news over the next few weeks. A few months ago we were approached by one of our blogging friends.....she is a freelance writer and was putting together an article on training so-called "impossible breeds". She has a Great Dane, Honey, who is not only a therapy dog, she does canine freestyle too.....and has just started agility! You can see Honey's blog by clicking here. She contacted us because unfortunately, Beagles often fall into the "untrainable" category, but she knew of our achievements with our Kennel Club Good Citizen awards. We were of course happy to share our experiences and contribute to the article which appears in this month's issue of Dogs Today, it's in shops today. Also featured is another blogging friend, Amber and her Rhodesian Ridgeback, Nala whose blog is excellent and filled with beautiful photographs and great training tips.
